Why do gas detectors need to be calibrated regularly?

The calibration of a gas detector means that the instrument is placed in a test gas with a corresponding known concentration, and the detection result of the gas detector is compared with the gas concentration to know the accuracy of the gas detector. First calibrate the instrument with a zero gas and a standard concentration gas, and obtain a standard curve and store it in the instrument. During the measurement, the instrument compares the electrical signal generated by the concentration of the gas to be measured with the electrical signal of the standard concentration, and the calculation is accurate The gas concentration value. Therefore, zero-calibration of the instrument at any time and regular calibration of the instrument are essential tasks to ensure the accuracy of the instrument measurement.

The calibration of the gas detector is an important way to detect the sensitivity of the instrument and restore the accuracy of the instrument. At the same time, through testing and calibration, we can also judge whether the sensor of the gas detector has failed. Therefore, it is necessary to perform instrument calibration on a regular basis. Generally, calibration is a very simple and convenient process, requiring only two steps:

1. Set the instrument to zero in "air" that does not contain the gas to be measured;

2. Place the instrument in a standard gas containing a known concentration for calibration.

For small partners in the security industry, portable gas detectors must be accurate, reliable, and not tolerant of carelessness. The correct and regular calibration and maintenance of the detector is a necessary method, which shows how important calibration is. In fact, whether it is the gas detector manufacturer or national regulations, there are also calibration regulations, which are usually divided into two categories:

  1. Equipment manufacturers will require regular calibration, usually once within2-6 months, ensure that the instrument can work normally and effectively.

  2.  Metrology regulations require that the number of calibrations should not be less than once every 12 months, and this calibration must be carried out in the metrology department specified by the state, that is to say, calibration must be carried out in a third-party metrology institute.
