How Does A Natural Gas Alarm Detect A Natural Gas Leak?

Oct 12, 2023 Leave a message

The natural gas alarm is a fixed gas alarm. It is mainly composed of a gas detector and a gas controller. The gas detector is mainly installed at the work site for gas detection. The gas controller is mainly used to detect actual gas concentration and sound. Because of the function of the optical alarm, the gas controller is mainly installed in the duty room and central control room. In places where people are on duty at all times, the gas concentration and alarm status can be seen in time. The main component of natural gas is methane, which is an extremely flammable and explosive gas. Its lower explosion limit is 5%, which means that when methane gas reaches 5% in the air, it will explode when exposed to an open flame under corresponding conditions. In order to prevent this kind of accident from happening, we need to install an alarm instrument. When the natural gas leakage has not reached the lower explosion limit, the alarm device will alarm and remind the staff to take corresponding measures in time to avoid the accident. This alarm device is natural gas Gas alarm. So how does a natural gas gas alarm detect a natural gas leak?

Natural Gas Alarm

As we said earlier, natural gas alarms are mainly composed of gas detectors and gas controllers. The main instrument for detecting natural gas leaks is the gas detector. The most important component of the gas detector is the gas sensor, which is heated by the refractory metal platinum wire. The resistance change is used to measure the concentration of combustible gas. The probe (sensor) in the detector consists of a pair of catalytic combustion detection elements: one element is very sensitive to combustible gases (the element is coated with multiple layers of catalyst); the other element is insensitive and is used to compensate for changes in ambient temperature. This pair of detection elements and another pair of high-precision resistors form a Wheatstone bridge. When combustible gas enters the detector, it causes an oxidation reaction (flameless combustion) on the surface of the platinum wire. The heat generated increases the temperature of the platinum wire, and the resistance of the platinum wire changes, which causes the bridge to become unbalanced and generates a millivolt-level electrical signal that is sent to the secondary instrument. After being amplified by the instrument, it is compared with the instrument set voltage. , the square wave generator outputs a set of square wave signals to control the sound and light circuits to form an alarm system.

Therefore, strictly speaking, installing a gas alarm is not a hard requirement, but an additional safety guarantee. As an auxiliary tool, you can be reminded unconsciously; so, after installing the alarm, you don’t have to worry at all? Neither. Occasionally, gas alarms need to be checked for malfunctions. It has fault self-diagnosis function. Buying a qualified gas alarm with guaranteed quality is equivalent to adding a gas safety assistant. Gas detector manufacturers recommend that if you are in a basement, semi-basement or a confined space above ground level (without windows or windows used only for lighting), it is recommended to install a gas gas alarm for safety reasons.
